Student, 21, ‘took his possess life’ even though learning at College of Nottingham

The devastated family of a 21-calendar year-previous college student who died by suicide while learning at university have vowed to ‘always try to remember him with a smile’. 

University of Nottingham arithmetic university student Alex Barusevicus took his have lifetime in his dwelling in Lenton on January 21 – shortly after shelling out Christmas with his family at home.

Mrs Barusevicus – a clinic worker – said: ‘I never ever thought it would transpire to me. 

‘He cherished staying at university and was into activity and exercise – he had just started out American football and played rugby listed here.

‘He was also into cycling like his more mature brother, Peter, who took him beneath his wing.

‘He had just got a new bicycle he acquired 2nd-hand and was functioning on it – he would ask me questions all the time for my impression.

‘It’s all just these kinds of a shock to me. I was always there to pick him up from the teach station when he comes residence. I continue to keep imagining he is just absent at college.’

Students have faced a torrid 12 months that has involved very long intervals locked in their halls of home amid outbreaks of coronavirus on campuses.  

Alex’s more youthful sister, Katrina, aged 15, included: ‘I’ll always bear in mind him with a smile, normally joyful.

‘I realized he cared but he was irritating, and normally joking about. 

‘He by no means took issues far too very seriously and would normally check out new issues. He beloved finding out, and his bike.’

Alex’s faculty pal Hayaat Karim, 20, stated: ‘Alex was section of a close friendship team that all grew up jointly.

‘An remarkable, intelligent man and an even-improved pal. Our entire friendship group shook, his memory forever in our hearts and his contagious laughter permanently leading to us to smile. Our hearts is not going to at any time be the exact.’

Yet another friend Harvey Kemp wrote: ‘One of my most effective mates, Alex Barusevicus, regrettably passed absent. 

‘He attended Wilsden principal, Bingley Grammar University and then went on to study maths at the University of Nottingham. 

‘A funny, clever gentleman who could gentle up any place with his contagious smile I’m likely to miss him so much.’ 

Alex’s girlfriend, Ga Hazell, 19, reported the pair fulfilled on Valentine’s Working day final year.

Ga, a Nottingham Trent College college student, said she ‘absolutely beloved his smile’.

‘He was definitely common and there was a significant group of good friends in Nottingham,’ she included.

‘There wasn’t a lot we could do simply because of lockdown, but he beloved to cook dinner for me, which I’d never had before and he was so handy with Do it yourself or house things.

‘I want he could have found what people had to say about him. I you should not assume he understood the catastrophic result it would have on so lots of of us.’

A memorial fund has been established up to raise £1,000 for a bench in Alex’s title, The Nottingham Post reports.

So much, it has lifted almost £4,500 with any remaining money heading to his funeral fees and Thoughts mental health charity. 

A University of Nottingham spokesperson claimed: ‘As a local community, we are deeply saddened by the sudden demise of 1 of our learners and send out our sincere condolences to his loved ones, pals and teammates who we are supporting at this tough time.’

Detective Constable Dionne Like explained: ‘Emergency providers have been referred to as to a house in Albert Grove in Lenton pursuing a report of a sudden loss of life to
a man.

‘Officers attended the residence at about 12.40pm on 21 January 2021.

‘The dying is not currently being addressed as suspicious.’
